Our story begins in 1860, not long after Chicago had become the heart of the railroad system and winter ice was collected to keep meat fresh throughout the summer. By this time, the city had an abundance of general stores and 27 restaurants all needing a trusted supplier to bring quality meat to the community: Ruprecht.
