Big Lunch, Big Impact: Norman Hotel Fires Up the Grill for Soldier On
There’s a reason The Norman Hotel has earned its place as Brisbane’s beloved “worst vegetarian restaurant.” Since opening its doors in 1889, this iconic venue has become a staple for locals and a rite-of-passage stop for visitors. But beyond its reputation for great steaks, The Norman is also home to a meaningful annual tradition - The Big Lunch.
For more than 15 years, The Big Lunch has brought together chefs, suppliers, and industry leaders to support causes that matter. This year, the hospitality community rallied once again, raising funds for Soldier On, an organisation committed to supporting Australian veterans and their families. It’s a cause close to many, and Kilcoy Global Foods is proud to stand alongside partners who share our commitment to giving back.
Our relationship with The Norman Hotel runs more than three years deep, with both Ebony Angus and Kilcoy Diamond featured proudly on their menu. For this year’s event, guests were treated to something special, our Kilcoy Diamond Choice OP Ribs, slow-roasted whole on a spit for over six hours. With a marble score of 2+, this cut delivered the tenderness, richness, and depth of flavour worthy of a long-standing community event. Head Chef Frank summed it up perfectly: “Beautifully, nice and tender and evenly cooked throughout.”
Supporting The Big Lunch is about more than showcasing exceptional beef, it’s about being part of something bigger. At Kilcoy Global Foods, we take pride in supporting the communities we operate in and partnering with organisations that genuinely uplift those around them. Being involved in events like this strengthens our connection to the people who make our industry what it is and reinforces the impact we can create together. We look forward to taking part in future events that allow us to continue making a positive impact.
